Non-traditional Colors

For this week's Tuesday Morning Sketches I have done a Christmas card in non traditional colors. I used lime green with pink.

The pink paper has silver snowflakes and I backed that with silver metallic. For my scalloped portion, I used 3 vellum die cut snowflakes. For the circle element, I used a double layer of die cut snowflakes, silver in the background and then a vellum one on top. The sentiment is from SU, stamped and embossed with silver. Love all the shimmer and shine.

Here is the sketch

I hope you like this one will play along with us. Tuesday Morning Sketches

Bright Stars

My card for the current challenge at Cardz 4 Guyz which is  stars

Stars are a great choice for masculine Christmas cards. You can have all the glimmer without being too fussy.

I recently purchased Brushed Gold cards and envelopes from Stampin' Up! They come with that gold along the edge on front and back of the card. To get twice the cards, I cut this one in two and used half on the front of a navy card base, leaving the other half for another card. The gold square is 3 1/4". The blue paper is 3" square. That blue paper had white stars so I colored each one with a gold gel pen, looks so much better with the gold on the card. The star is a giant sticker I found in my Christmas stash. The sentiment is SU! stamped in red and fussy cut.

Beautiful Poinsettia

I took a piece of vellum paper, scribbled on the back with shades of pink and sprayed with alcohol.  When that was dry, I turned the vellum over and stamped the poinsettias in Versamark and embossed with gold and die cut the 3 layers.

The poinsettia and dies are from Stampin' Up! I die cut the large flower in green vellum and cut it apart for leaves. The gold die cuts are also in the die set. Along the left edge is a strip of pink sparkly vellum paper.

The card base is a pre-embossed gold from Stampin' Up!. The sentiment is an old one also embossed in gold.

Linking up to Let's Craft and Create. The challenge there is anything goes with a twist of using paper strips instead of ribbon.

First Stamp

Challenge at Try Stampin' On Tuesday is a fun sketch as well an inspiration to  use an old stamp.

I did both.

This cute little snowman is the very first stamp I bought--about 15 years ago. It was to make my own Christmas cards the year I retired. I had already been doing scrapbooking so card making seemed the next step.  I don't have a copy of that first card but I can say my designs and techniques have come a long way.--as well as my collection of supplies, papers, stamps, etc.

The stamp is Ink-a-Dink-a-Doo. The papers are a variety of snow patterns from my Christmas scraps. The background is a wintery pine needles scene where I used a clear star gel pen t0n o make them sparkle.

Plaids

It is the middle of September. Have you started your Christmas cards yet? Tuesday Morning Sketches has a great new sketch for you to try and it's a great one to use some of those scraps.

You buy 6x6 paper pads, trim them down to 5 1/4" x 4" card fronts. What do you do with all those 2" strips left over? They were perfect for this design. I picked 3 that looked good together and cut 2" squares and backed them with coordinating colors. To counter balance the harshness of squares corners, I used a die cut circle for the sentiment. Also coordinating with the squares, an argyle Cuttlebug E/F was used on the white background. One small red sequin adds some bling.

Pull out some of your scraps and create a card this week to share at Tuesday Morning Sketches

Thanks

Whoosh. There goes another week. It is almost the middle of September. I have started Christmas cards but needed to take a break to do some special Thank You cards.

It being Tuesday. a new sketch is on Tuesday Morning Sketches, I decided to use that for one of my Thank You cards.

The DSP is an old retired piece from Stampin" Up!. I picked up 2 of the colors in the design to use for the accent strips. The sentiment is also SU! and then 3 gems instead of flowers.

I hope you find time to create with us at Tuesday Morning Sketches.

Witchie, Witchie

Well, we've rolled around to Tuesday again so time for a new sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches

I really like this one and am sure I will be coming back to it often. I actually made 2 cards to share today.

The first is for Halloween. I recently purchased the Bewitching stamp set from Stampin' UP!s clearance rack. I have been admiring the witch hats and shoes for a while and now that it went on sale I just had to have it.

The lemon-lime twist paper (SU!) is embossed with Cuttlebug E/F with big dots. It reminds me of the dots on the witch hat which I now realize maybe I should have colored them green instead of purple. The purple scrap is embossed with SU!'s spider web E/F . I stamped the shoes on a white scrap, colored the socks and buckles and mounted that on black. I would normally have done a little shading under the shoes to ground the image  but decided I want it to look like the witch is taking off so I made some clouds with a stencil. Then I stamped the hat on white and fussy cut it and attached above the shoes.

I left off a sentiment because I couldn't decide where to place it and well, it obviously is halloween.

Inside is a  computer made sentiment with a stamped spider.

My  two-fer with papers from my scrap mountain.

I hope you will find some time this week to play with out sketch, check out the design team cards, and share your creation with us.
