Go Green

Newton's Nook Blog is having a Go Green challenge. I recently purchased 2 birthday sets from them and am having so much fun with them. They are just darn cute! Go to my home page to find several other cards done with these sets.
This one is Winston's Birthday set. I like the sentiment "another birthday?" with this. I think the bear looks so perplexed like "how could that be"
I had the green textured DP in my scrap file. It hard to see that I snipped the edge with fringe scissors. A light sponging of blue sets off the punched clouds which have glitter glue on them. I stamped, colored, and cut out Winston and glued him on. I stamped the balloons on 3 different green DP scraps and cut them out and attached scraper's floss with a glue dot. I popped the balloons up with deminsionals. Then I tied a knot at the end of the balloon strings and attached it to the bear's paw.
Inside, I stamped a balloon and colored it green to accent the sentiment I made on computer.

Purr-fect Birthday

I can't believe I actually made 2 cards today. This one, another cute kitty from Newton's Birthday Bash by Newton's Nook I am loving these adorable cat images. Isn't it fun to play with new stamps?
The DP stripes are from SU. I colored this cat with a yellow orange and smudged on some brown to make it look calico. There is really no wrong way to color a cat, they come in so many varieties. He is fussy cut and glued to the card. The sentiment is from the same set.

Another Birthday?

Today we visit the zoo to celebrate "Winston's Birthday", another cute stamp from Newtons Nook.
I followed the sketch from The Kraft Journal

Here is my trip to the zoo
I used Kraft cardstock base. I guess that could represent a lot of animals with brown fur. The b/w cow DP is from an Animal Print stack. The sort of zebra stripe is washi tape. Then Winston, who looks totally perplexed about another birthday, is colored to look like a panda. The gift and hat are from the same set, stamped and colored and then cut out. I used strands of baker's twine untwisted for the tassel. I added googly eyes which add even more to that perplexed look. The sentiment is also from the Winston set.
And inside
I did the sentiment on the computer. Added a strip of the tape and sponged some red around the edges.

Cute Kitty

I just purchased the cutest kitten stamps from Newton's Nook and just had to get them inky right away.
This one is from Newton's Birthday Bash. I can just imagine the reaction if this kittie actually popped the balloon!  I colored it with colored pencils. The hat is a separate stamp fussy cut and glued on with bits of orange and white from baker's twine that I unraveled. I used the same twine to do the bow on the balloon. The DPs are from SU except the yellow check from my scrap bin. The back of the grey paper has the yellow sunbursts that just fit the oval. I added 3 yellow SU candy dots up there in the corner. A little additional decorating inside is always a great touch. The sentiment is via computer.
Here is the sketch I followed from Tuesday Morning Sketches

Since it is Anything Goes week at Tuesday Throwdown, I will link up there also.

Spring Blossom

Taking a break in my laundry marathon day (5 loads so far) for a quick spring card. I am so done with winter. Wish Mother Nature was too!
I think this is probably SU's Melon Mambo cardstock, then a layer of whisper white. The DPs are Paper Pizzaz. I used my new fringe scissors from SU for the "grass" strip. The blossom punch makes for a quick flower. Another small blossom punch for the center and a pearl on top of that. I used a bone folder to curl the petal leaves and popped the blossom up with a deminsional. The sentiment is PTI.

It's A Girl

Exciting news at our house yesterday. We are going to have another granddaughter in July. She has 2 older brothers, so there is lots of excitement in their house too. That was on my mind as I sat down to do the sketch from Pals Paper Arts
2-20Sketch192
I just had to make a baby girl card.
I used a whisper white card base and then gumball green. The DPs are from Paper Pizzaz. I didn't want to obscure the green check so stamped the baby carriage in Melon Mambo on  vellum and then die-cut it with a scalloped oval. The sentiment is done on the computer and anchored at the top with 2 dahlia embellishments from SU.

The Color Purple

I am so proud of my granddaughter. She is in 4th grade and won the spelling bee for her school. She will be in a regional competition next week. We are unable to go watch so I made her a good luck card. Since her favorite color is purple, of course I had to use that on the card.
The purple leather looking DP was in a Mixed Media scrap pack I found at JoAnn's. The banner is from an Animal Prints Stack Pack. The letters are stamped in Color Box violet with a set of letters from PSX Designs. I think they look a little like spelling a word out with scrabble tiles. The butterfly stamp and punch is from SU. A bow of purple/white twine and 3 purple rhinestones for bling complete the card.

Star "Quilt"

I was blog surfing to some of my favorites today and realized I am way behind in challenges. So I searched for some that I could combine.
Curtain Call is quilts with this inspiration picture

The Paper Players

Hero Arts

So here is what I came up with.
If you live anywhere near Amish areas, you know they are excellent quilters. And frequently they use bright colors on black backgrounds. So I punched out the ROYGBIV stars (minus the Indigo) and put them on black cardstock. I used a white pencil to make the "quilt" lines. I am no better making straight, small stitches with a pencil than I am with needle and thread. The stars were a little blah just plain so I used some letter stickers to spell HELLO!

Ship in a Bottle

I received some new DP from SU. There was a sheet with ships in a bottle and I thought what will I ever do with that! What a challenge that would be. So when I started playing around with images to put on  the sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches I decided to try one of the bottle images. Sometimes the answer is right there in front of you.
The papers are all from SU. Since it is a masculine looking card, instead of a bow, I tied the silver ribbon in 3 knots--kind of nautical that way.

Girly Duct Tape

I have used this idea before on men's cards. Girls can use duct tape too, right? Well at least this girl does--but mainly on cards!! My SIL just had double knee replacement surgery and is having some difficulties post-op so I thought this sentiment would suit the occasion. I know she will have a real laugh at this one.

So to make it girly, I used a purple polka-dot DP from SU. Then a strip of real duct tape. The sentiment was done via computer and then punched out in tag shape. The ribbon is also from SU. The bandaid across the bottom of the tag was "glamed" up with irridescent purple stickers.

Valentine Bouquet

From this inspiration photo at The Card Concept and the instruction to use monochromatic pink:

I picked out the bouquet of roses and using a CAS concept came up with a bouquet of hearts.

I pulled out my pink scrap file and found 5 different pink patterns and shades. Die cut the hearts and drew in stems with SU Certainly Celery marker. Both tag punches are from SU as well as the sentiment stamped in Melon Mambo.
Sometimes a mistake leads to a better look. I had the hearts off center so trimmed the white and secured it to a pink cardstock card. I think that pink border makes the hearts pop.

Sunshine

Here is a little sunshine for all my Midwest friends who are being bombarded with another winter storm.
The products today are all from SU:  Watercolor Wonder DP, Summer Silhouettes and Loving Thoughts.
The inside message is done on computer and then the flower stamped lightly over that. I like the touch of a little something extra inside.
This is from the sketch at Tuesday Throwdown

cheer

this is a sweet sunny cheer card for any friend who needs a "card hug"
The DP is from Watercolor Wonder by SU. I love this collection, the colors are so soft and pretty. The yellow circle is the back of the floral paper. The sentiment outside and in are from SU Thoughts and Prayers set. The butterfly is from SU. Instead of using the coordinating punch, I cut it out because I didn't like the white border on it. Black scrapper's floss make the antennae and 3 tiny pearls for the body.
The sketch design is this one from Freshly Made Sketches
