Backgrounds--Smooshing?

I don't know what the technique is called. I made my own backgrounds by rubbing ink pads on a mat, spraying it with water, and then pressing the card stock onto it. Is that called smooshing?  Having a senior moment here? Help!

Anyway, I made my own backgrounds for these 2 cards.

The turtle and sentiment are from Technique Tuesday. The turtle is lightly colored with Prismore colored pencils. Behind the turtle is some shimmer paper from SU. I popped up the turtle with foam tape. The sea shells are stickers, also from SU.

The green one has a retired SU stamp and sentiment. The bird is also lightly colored with pencils. I sponged some Pool Party around the bird for a little sky. Behind the bird is a piece of green vellum stamped with seaweed from SU.

I am using the sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches

The green one I will keep in my stash.

The blue one will go in the stash for Send A Smile 4 Kids

  1. Great cards! I especially like the turtle one. I really do like turtles, for some reason. I think the shimmer paper behind it was a good idea, too. I haven't tried the smooshing technique. I've seen a few videos showing how to do it. I guess I need to venture out and give it a try.

  5. Yes, it is called smooshing and it came out beautifully. I love those backgrounds on the cute cards. Great for kids too. Thanks for the sweet comment. Maybe we can meet for lunch again in Nashville when all the variants are over. I'm pretty cautious.
