Sun and Fun

Summer sun is certainly heating up my area of Indiana. So Darnell's  Twofer Card Challenge of Sunshine is perfect for the season. Except, my entry didn't work out exactly as I had planned. I forgot to take a picture of the 2 cards together and I sent one of them in the mail yesterday. So I had to recreate the water scene card again today.

Number 1 is the traditional sunshine with a beachy scene made with stamps from SU Waterfront and Wetlands sets.

The sentiment is also SU. I stamped it in black, fussy cut around it and then sponged on some of the brown to make it blend into the sand. All the patterned papers are also SU.  I love sitting on the beach watching the sand pipers run to the water and then back.

Number 2 uses the sunshine stamp to make colorful polka-dots.

Colors used are SU: daffodil yellow, melon mambo, balmy blue and highland heather.  The sentiment is an old unlabeled one. The die cut shapes are from Pink and Main. I popped up the die cuts with foam tape as you can see from the shadow created there.

Okay, I will confess. I wasn't intending to add sequins but there was an ink smudge that needed covering. Now I am glad that happened because I really like the look with the sequins.

Also sharing this on Darnell's NBUS page as the Pink and Main die cuts are new.

  2. Two super cards! I love your beach scene with the DSP banners behind it. And the colorful polka dots are great - especially with a few sequins thrown in for good measure. I'm hoping to have a couple cards for the sunshine challenge, too. Maybe I can get started on themn tomorrow.

  3. Two wonderful cards Donna, and had to chuckle about mailing out your beach scene card before photographing it and having to make another one...sounds like something I would do! But the beach scene card was definitely worth repeating as it's a beauty!! I love all the added dsp too! And using your sun image to make colorful polka dots on your 2nd card is an AWESOME idea!! Definitely a bright and cheerful card guaranteed to bring a smile to the recipients face!! Thanks so much for sharing both of these beautiful cards with us at The Twofer Challenge!! Marcia :0)

  4. Aw, you're the best, Donna. I appreciate that you made a second sandpiper card so you could take a photo of your cards together. If it happens again, you can always do a collage of two photos; that works, too.

I really love both your very different designs! Your beach fishtail banner scene is a little frameable work of art! I love watching those industrious little birds, too! And I love the papers you gathered and how you designed your layout. And your second design with the all-over sun polkie dots is just genius. I love how colorful and joyful it is! And the sediment treatment and the sequins are perfect! Thank you so much for playing in TCC #39! Hugs, Darnell

  5. This are two fantastic and totally different cards with the sun, Donna. I can tell stories about how many times I forgot to take a photo of the card. :-) Collage of both cards will work to for the challenge, but your decision to make another card is great. First card is fantastic layered. The central motive is very nice colored. Second card is cheerfuly and colorful. I like the turn of the sun to polka dots. Thank you for joining us at TCC Sunshine.
