I am experimenting with water colors for the challenge at CAS Mix Up
My choice here is die cutting. I used the trees from Impression Obsession.
I am still struggling to get good watercolor backgrounds.
The first one I think the colors are too intense, I didn't use enough water to dilute the colors. Ends up looking like a forest fire.
So then I tried the same 3 colors using watercolor pencils. More of a sunset but still not happy with it.
Back to the drawing board. This one I used only more diluted orange and colored the whole background. Then used a watered down red and dabbed it randomly on the background.
I think it looks like red leaves blowing around. Happier with this one.
So I am putting them up for a vote? Which is your favorite?

They are all pretty Donna. Hard to pick a favourite, but I do love the colours you used with the pencils. :) Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up!
ReplyDeleteSince I love Fall leaves, I think I would chose #3 with your soft watercolour wash background and falling leaves, but actually liked all 3 of your cards. TFS them all, Donna and joining us at CAS Mix Up. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI like all of your backgrounds, Donna! The first doesn't look like a forest fire at all but how the woods look in the fall when you're surrounded by golds, oranges and reds. Your sunset looks lovely and I love the red splatters on the third! They do look like leaves blowing in the wind. Thanks so much for sharing these with us at CAS Mix Up! And keep at it!
ReplyDeleteI think I like your third attempt best, too. I struggle with water coloring myself. I just can't seem to get my colors to blend.
ReplyDeleteThree lovely versions of your design Donna! Isn't it amazing how different they look using different colors! The first does look like a blazing forest fire sky, the second an early morning sky and the third a crisp fall day! Thanks for trying out the watercolor wash and joining us in the CAS Mix Up Challenge! Julia xx
