Honor Flight

We have a good friend who was recently selected to participate in "Honor Flight" to celebrate his years serving in the Air Force.  If you are not familiar with Honor Flight, it is an organization that gathers older veterans, flies each one with a companion to Washington D.C. for a day. There is a special celebration for them and they visit the war memorials. As a surprise to the participants, friends are asked to send cards to a collection point and they will be distributed to the veterans on their flight home.

Patriotic of course has to be red, white, and blue. The navy background is embossed with stars. The red waves are from SU's Swirly Bird die set. The navy with white stars is from the scrap bin. The star is a die cut by SU done in white glitter paper. Celebrating You are from word sets by SU.

DUCT TAPE

My 76 yr old brother-in-law fell off a ladder while trying to put a hunting tree stand into a tree. Broke his pelvis and got several abrasions. Fortunately his wife was with him but with no cell phone reception, she had to get him into the car and to the local hospital.  When are these older men going to realize there comes a time when they should not be climbing ladders?
Here is the get well card I sent

That is real duct tape across the bottom. The sentiment is done on computer. The tree (SU's Rooted in Nature) and the strip of wood grain paper scrap are inspired by his building a tree stand. Just to carry on the theme, I added a small bandaid sticker to the side.

GONE FISHIN'

Wednesday is my husband's birthday. He loves to fish, although does not get a lot of opportunities. So I made him a fish card.

The fish and jar are from SU's Jars of Love set. I used a couple of blue scraps to make the waves with SU's Swirly Bird dies. And some green fronds from SU's Botanical Blooms dies. The background is a stencil from My Favorite Things.  I think the fishes are a bit too fascinated by the jar floating in the water. One of them already got caught.  Inside I continued the jumping fish.

This is one of my twofers for this month's Twofer Card Challenge with Nautical theme.

The other card is a background of DSP by SU (now retired) The sea grass is in 2 different greens from the Jars of Love die cuts. The sentiments are computer made. hard to see is the waves from a green printed vellum and 5 "bubbles" from the fish made with Nuvo Crystal clear drops.

Feel Better Syrup

OOPS! I almost missed this week's challenge from Tuesday Morning Sketches.

So I have just a quick and easy one.

I am adding to my stash of Get Well cards with this fun pre-colored digi image by From The Heart.

I backed the image with some blue marble print by Ms. Sparkle. I think it brings out the blue eyelids on the chicken. Hope it is not too dizzy to make the recepient worse. The ribbon behind is just a strip from my stash. I anchored the image with 3 band-aid stickers I picked up for 1/2 price at Michael's.
How could you not feel cheered up with this adorable chickie spooning out and spilling his feel good syrup.  Hmmm. do we need to check out the ingredient label?

Daisies

It is a lazy summer Sunday afternoon. I have taken time to retreat to my craft room and create. After browsing some blogs, I realized I had not yet played with  Pixie's Crafty Workshop Snippet Challenge #358 and would love a chance to win that Newton's Nook daisy stamp and die set.

The sky background is a sheet from Ms. Sparkle Clouds and Grass paper pad. The rest is a bunch of snippets. The Lemon Lime Gingham is from SU as is the sentiment.  I think daisies and gingham go so well together. The tiny orange strip is the very last bit of snippet from a sheet of patterned paper. See, never throw anything away, it just may be the accent you need. The daisy dies, stems, and leaves are from SU different sets. The butterfly was laying on my desk left over from another project. 

Sunflowers

They are stripping and then repaving my street today, making a lot of dust so I see a trip to the carwash tomorrow.  No going anywhere today though. Perfect day to spend in the craft room.

Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. Stampin' Up!'s Painted Harvest is getting a lot of use. I stamped a bunch of sunflowers and fussy cut them so they are ready for quick cards. Punching out leaves in different shades of green also makes them readily accesible. I store all of these in the case with the stamps.

I left off the sentiment so I can add it for whatever occasion I need. The DP is from retired DSP from SU. Card base is Chocolate Chip. The ribbons are from Michaels.

Here are a couple more cards with the beautiful sunflower.

This is loose interpretation of the same sketch, if you tilt your head a bit.  Card base is Kraft. The background is grapefruit grove embossed with an SU folder. The sentiment is from Inky Antics stamped with Crumb Cake on a Stitched Nested Label (top edge cut off). Under the sunflowers, I added some strands of raffia.

The next one is CAS and quick. tape down a piece of burlap. (Money saving tip: buy 1/4 yard of burlap fabric and cut into pieces). Add a sunflower and some leaves.
