Yoda

 I am excited Cas-ual Fridays challenge this week is congratulations cards. I was hoping to be able to share this card I just sent my 5 year old grandson who is into everything "Star Wars". He just "graduated" from pre-school.

The Stampabilities star is stamped on the blue cardstock with Versamark and then traced with a clear star gel pen. The Yoda is cut out of a scrapbook paper from Creative Imaginations. The grad hat also from Stampabilities was stamped with Staz-On black and fussy cut. I glued on a short piece of embroidery floss for the tassel. I did the sentiment by computer and then die cut it with Hero Arts Dad's Tie.
The inside message says "To Kindergarten and beyond".  He loved the card. My daughter sent a cute video of him doing a little "happy dance" with it.
 

Junie B. Jones

Tuesday Throwdown asks us to create a project inspired by a favorite book. I am a voracious reader of lots of subjects--the mystery thriller is my favorite genre. However I can't think of any particular favorite and didn't think that would make an attractive project. I recently visited grandkids and they had me read the Junie B. Jones books to them. I fell in love with her. She is a primary schooler with an attitude. Just a really fun character but can easily get herself in predicaments. So I have this little girl stamp set that reminds me of Junie, I think it is from Penny Black.

I used a white card base. The stripes DP, sentiment, and tag tie are from SU. There are 2 strips of sparkly ribbon on the left. The figure is stamped on a Nesties Label 4 die and colored with colored pencils and star gel pens. I gave her a smear of red lipstick--Junie gets in trouble playing in her mother's makeup. I tilted the label a bit to look like she is about to fall with that large stack of presents--also to follow this sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches
Just a fun birthday card for a little girl.
Since it is "anything goes" at Simon Says I will link it up there also.

40th

I love all the sketches out there in blogland. It is fun trying them. This one is the Deconstructed Sketch 102 from Jen


Here is my interpretation

I think it adds just the right amount of humor for a woman turning 40--funny but not insulting.
I used a white card base with a layer of a soft lemon yellow. The ducks and sentiment are by Rosie's Roadshow found at Papertrix, an area stamp store. The 40 are stickers. The ribbon from my scrap box. I used a dimensional in the center of the ribbon to give it a little lift. A light orange button and baker's twine anchor the ribbon.

Playing along this week with The Play Date Café challenge of navy, yellow, and green.

These papers are all from my scrap file which is really getting overloaded. I am either going to have to make a BUNCH of scrap cards or weed out. The sentiment is from SU. I anchored the banners with 2 square brads from Michael's and tied a double yellow/white twine bow for the center.
I need to admit I totally cased this card

from Lynn at The Mango Boys and Me. I loved the way she did the banners and the accents. But I wanted a little more gender neutral card so left off the flowers. Thanks Lynn for the inspiration.

stamping on DP

I am intrigued by Cas-ual Fridays challenge to stamp on designer paper. I haven't tried that much so this was really a challenge for me. After a few of attempts, this is what I came up with:

 

The DP and butterflies are SU. Ink is chocolate chip from SU. Thinking of you is Lawn Fawn. I really like that font. The border punch is Martha Stewart. I found some brown gems in my stash to use on the scallops.

Okay, trying this again. I guess I need to read the whole blog contents closer. Tuesday Morning Sketches posted a sketch challenge. And I jumped on that right away with a card. When I went back to check the entries, I noticed I had missed the directive to use flowers. So here is my second attempt at the sketch

I made the inside special too:

Sadly, our niece, only 42 yrs old, was just diagnosed with breast cancer. I wanted to make her a card that let her know she is in our prayers and some encouragement for whatever she faces with treatments. The front stamp and sentiment are SU. The inside is computer generated. The butterflies are an embossolit by Sizix for SU. The ink is SU's Melon Mombo.

Wings

The theme at Simon Says Stamps Challenge is "Things with Wings"
I used this sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches

I altered the orientation so the words on the stripe would be right side up. Plane is Stampabilities colored with star gel pens. Sentiment is SU. Star is a punch. Might use this for a graduation card. 

B&W Dots

I am still trying to catch up from my 2 week absence from home. It was fun to go stay with my grandsons but it sure takes a long time to catch up after returning home. One thing I am way behind on is making cards for challenges. Finally getting time in the craft room so I am hitting a 3fer today. Don't you love it when you can multitask? The Play Date Café  (b&w with splash of magenta), Papercraft Star (polka dots and lace) and Cas-ual Fridays tic-tac-toe grid:

I chose the diagonal polka dots, bling, black & white.

Ignore the pink background, I used it behind the white card so it would show up on the scanner.

The black dots are punched out, glued on and then  run through Big Shot with polka dots IP. The eyelet punch on the pink is Martha Stewart. I'm thinking that passes for lace. The hello is Technique Tuesday. Two pink rhinestones add the bling.
