Father's Day Frog

Two cards today--two challenges. This one is a sketch from Freshly Made Sketches:

I love frogs and I think of them as more masculine so I decided to make a Father's Day card using a frog. How is that for planning ahead?
The papers here were in my scrap box. I know that plaid was in SU fall catalog. The frog stamp and the sentiment are both SU. I colored the frog with Prismacolor pencils. You can't tell here but there is a little puddle of blue shaded around the bottom. And don't you just love google eyes? They just always make me laugh. I thought these brads look a lot like metal studs so appropriate for masculine card.

I am following this sketch today from The Paper Players:

I pulled some masculine papers from my scrap box. I think these DPs were from SU fall catalog.
The edge is a Tim Holtz die. I used the negative portion of it because I thought it looked more masculine. The stamp is also SU done in Lucky Limeade. I love the look of burlap on men's cards so I used a square but toned the white down with some Tim Holtz distress ink. Two small button brads add bling because Dad's need a little bling in their lives too!

square card with gift bag

The challenge for this week at MoJo Monday is square or round shaped cards. I don't usually do square cards and thought it time to meet the challenge. Here is their sketch choice:

This gift bag idea and the decorative slot die is from the uber talented Laurie Willison. You can see her creation here. Can you believe it, she even designed the die, had it manufactured, and marketed. Go check her blog She even does a video on how do the bags.
Here are my samples.

The cards are 4x4. Except for that rocket strip, and the button brads, everything is from SU. Here is the inside of the cards. I made them generic so they could be used for b'days or Mother's and Father's day.

Here is a picture of the bags with the decorative slot covers.

This is a great technique if you are making a really loaded front on your card. No need for an envelope to smash down all those pretties. I am really in love with this idea. I know I will be using it often.

Easter Egg

When I first saw the color combo of Regal Rose, Pool Party, Lucky Limeaide, and Early Espresso from The Paper Players I thought it kind of an odd combo. But they look pretty together..
Here is my card:
White card base, DPs from SU. The egg was stamped on the blue check paper, colored with star gel pens for some sparkle. The border punch is MS. The sentiment is TAC.

Lacy Doily

This week's challenge at Tuesday Throwdown is to incorporate lace and doilies in a project. So I combined and am featuring a lacy doily. The colors also fit the challenge at Pals Paper Arts. First off let me admit I have toatally cased a card from Catherine Pooler. Here is her super gorgeous card
Hearts a flutter birthday card

Thanks Catherine for the inspiration. Here is my cased card:
When I went to my lace stash looking for inspiration, I found this tatted doily. SU DPs are Tea for Two and Print Poetry on a Calypso Coral background.I used dies from the Hearts a Flutter Bundle for the 2 small banners. The sentiment is from TAC stamped in Chocolate Chip on a Nesties die. Those gorgeous fabric roses are also from SU. I found the pearl flower and heart in a box of embellies on a sale rack at Michael's.
And such a pretty card deserves a decorated inside. So here is the inside of my card. I added more of the DP and banners.

First B'day

Today I am getting my mojo going with a sketch challenge from MoJo Monday:
I have been doing some kid cards from a scrapbook page of animal cutouts. This one has the adorable giraffe, one of my favorite animals. The animals punch out of the page with the red circle attached. I backed the opening with a white circle.
It is on ivory card base. The animal skin is paper I found at Hobby Lobby. It has kind of a leathery feel. I thought a baby would like that texture.I didn't want anything a child could pull off so everything is glued down well instead of popped with dimensionals. The Happy Birthday is from TAC. 1st is Stampendous punched with a SU label punch. I blinged it up a bit by filling in the heart on the giraffe with red star gel pen and highlighting the eyes with clear star gel pen.

CAS Thanks

Cas-ual Fridays challenge of stamping you own background is a real challenge for me. How much is too much and still have clean and simple? I usually tend to do too much and it looks messy. So I decided to use an inspiration of Kelly's. She did a super job with those stripes. I knew I would never get that many stripes straight (even with Stamp-a-ma-jig) so I limited myself to 2 sets. The stamp is an old border from The Angel Company. I stamped horizontal with SU's Tempting Turquoise and vertically with Lucky Limeade. I punched out circles of turquoise and white. The little thanks, also in limeade, is from a set of miniatures I have had a long time.
Ignore the red. I just put it in the background to make the white stand out.
